White Faced Whistling Ducks are sleek-looking birds with longer necks and legs than other ducks, and they make a whistling noise instead of quacking. They are crepuscular, which means you will see them eating and being more active at dusk and at dawn. This species is gregarious, and at favoured sites, the flocks of a thousand or more birds arriving at dawn are an impressive sight.
These ducks live throughout South America, sub-Saharan Africa and parts of the Caribbean and Central America. Its diet consists of grasses, aquatic seeds of water-lilies, rice, pondweeds, and tubers, as well as aquatic invertebrates such as molluscs, crustaceans and insects.
