April 01, 2015 08:22 PM - The Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero has had its accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums renewed for another five years.
To be accredited, the zoo underwent a review to ensure that it meets the association’s standards, which include animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education and safety. The accreditation process also includes an application and an onsite inspection by a team of zoo and aquarium professionals.
“Only zoos and aquariums that meet the highest standards are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums,” association President and CEO Jim Maddy said. “The community should take great pride in knowing that the Charles Paddock Zoo is a proven leader in the care and conservation of wildlife, and in inspiring people to take action to protect the natural world.”
The facility, established in 1955, is one of the smallest accredited zoos in the nation. Recognized since 1991, it's now accredited through 2019.
